Xiaomi: not one, not two, not three... but four electric cars would be on the menu

As we know, Xiaomi is preparing to fully enter the electric vehicle market. We learned this week that the brand would bet on no less than four models in total: two mid-range, two high-end.

Xiaomi would work not on one or two electric cars… but on four. This new information follows the announcement of a project to build a factory that would allow the Chinese giant, until now specialized in smartphones and electronic devices, to invade the market thanks to an annual production that eventually points to 300,000 cars per year.

Under the aegis of its new subsidiary Xiaomi Automobile (or Xiaomi EV), the group is preparing to launch two mid-range electric vehicles, for expected prices between 21,400 and 28,500 euros; and two other models positioned at the top of the range, for prices that this time range between 28,500 and 42,800 euros according to estimates by Electricity. We also learned that the brand would be ready to present a first prototype during the third quarter of 2022.

A first release in 2024 and a copious production from the start?

The two ranges desired by Xiaomi for its electric vehicles would be distinguished in particular by their autonomous driving capabilities. The most affordable models would thus be equipped with level 2+ autonomous driving, while the most cousin It would pass at a level 3.

The information transmitted by Electricity mention also a production launched in 2024 for a first model. Chinese media also suggested last September that an additional model would be launched in each of the next three years. Therefore, by 2027, the Xiaomi range would be complete if this information is to be believed. It should also be remembered that the brand would bet from the beginning on production in generous quantities, with an initial planned production capacity of 150,000 units per year.

Regardless, Xiaomi seems to be giving itself the means to achieve its ambitions in the electric vehicle market. Last year, the brand notably announced that it planned to invest a total of 10 billion dollars (about 8.5 billion euros) in this sector of activity over the next 10 years.
