Leaving aside the announcements related to the Xiaomi 12S series, the MIX Fold 2 is back in the news. New information about the screen and the part of the photo are appearing on the web.
Introduced just over a year ago, the Mi MIX Fold is the Xiaomi’s first attempt to fold smartphones. Sold only in China, this model allowed the amazing Mi MIX range to take a new spin. Since its announcement, Xiaomi has launched a multitude of more conventional and ambitious models. The recent announcement of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra confirms the ambitions of the manufacturer, which has not lost sight of the foldable device segment.
The world of foldable smartphones is currently dominated by Samsung. However, Xiaomi seeks to offer a strong opponent to the Samsung Galaxy Z and is working on a successor to the Mi Mix Fold. Leaker Digital Chat Station has published a review discussing some features of Xiaomi’s future foldable smartphone. Known under the codename zizhan, the MIX Fold 2 would have a 8-inch internal screen and a 6.5-inch external display.
The smartphone would benefit from a LTPO panel showing 2.5K definitionwith a refresh rate of 120Hz. Xiaomi would also offer a “bidirectional” design, which tends to confirm that the MIX Fold 2 would be the first smartphone with a screen that folds 360°. Inside, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 will have a chip Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 from Qualcomm like the Xiaomi 12S.
As a reminder, the folding device had already been the subject of indiscretions last April. The first rumors were also correct and the Digital Chat Station statements confirm most of the elements mentioned in March.
The MIX Fold 2 should benefit from the association with Leica
On the other hand, the manufacturer seems to have changed the photo part of its folding smartphone. While the rumor was betting on the presence of a 108-megapixel sensor, it is now rumored that the MIX Fold 2 will offer a 50 megapixel sensor. This photo module would be stamped leica and would record videos in Dolby Vision HDR. It is also expected to feature the in-house Surge C1 chip, which is Xiaomi’s first Image Processor (ISP).
Like the Xiaomi 12 Ultra that finally never saw the light; the association with Leica seems to have shaken the plans of the Chinese brand. For its latest premium model, Xiaomi said it has refined its work to finally release the 12S Ultra. The MIX range, which occupies a special place in the manufacturer’s catalogue, should also benefit from the know-how of the German photography specialist.
It remains to be seen when the MIX Fold 2 will see the light of day and if it can really play a role against the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. For this, Xiaomi will have to offer an international launch on its smartphone while Samsung must lift the veil. about its new range from August. A formalization during the summer of the MIX Fold 2 is not ruled out.
