We saw the Xiaomi CyberDog robot dog at MWC 2022 in Barcelona. It’s technologically impressive, but hard to find cute.
At MWC 2022, Xiaomi demonstrates CyberDog, its robot dog. The product is both disturbing in real life and when we discover it.
Being cute without having a head
Its quadrupedal, headless design doesn’t really make it cute, and yet it’s more of a consumer-focused design. In the idea, the different members of the family should be able to have fun with it.
In front of spectators at the Xiaomi booth at the fair, the robot showed that it had been moving, crouching, kicking, jumping, twerking, etc. The technique is necessarily impressive, but it’s hard not to be skeptical of the beast’s usefulness.
Seeing the Xiaomi CyberDog showing off its talents above all highlighted the difficulty of conveying an emotion with a robot. The opportunity to remember that Sony had still had success with the cute Aibo.
A little farther in the room, on another stand, the Boston Dynamics robot was also doing some tricks (mostly going up stairs). However, this device was originally designed for military purposes and for carrying heavy loads, among other things. Of course, we don’t expect to see anything pretty.
