Hungry for Windows 11 convertible tablets, but the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 and Huawei MateBook E didn’t meet your expectations? Xiaomi may have the product for you. Announced this Tuesday, June 21, the Xiaomi Book S is a 2-in-1 PC with Windows 11 that is committed to versatility and autonomy based on an ARM processor: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2. Equivalent to some Intel Core i5s, this chip isn’t very new anymore. Its replacement, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3, was announced in December 2021 and is already on board some products, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s, launched last month.

That said, Xiaomi seeks above all to offer a good equipment/price ratio with this product that will arrive in Europe on June 30 from 699 euros, excluding keyboard and stylus… which (as usual) are sold separately.

A fairly well-balanced Windows tablet?

Without revolutionizing the sector, or venturing to offer an OLED panel like its competitors Huawei and Asus (on the VivoBook 13 Slate in particular), Xiaomi is satisfied with a well-made IPS panel. This 12.4-inch touch screen benefits from a WQHD + definition (2560 by 1600 pixels) and a 16:10 ratio. Xiaomi also mentions a maximum luminance of 500 nits for this small LCD panel and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 spectrum.

For the rest, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 (recorded in 7nm) with 8 GB of DDR4 at 3200 MHz will be coupled. There will also be 256 GB of SSD storage and a 38 Wh battery that will supposedly allow a maximum of 14 hours of autonomy according to Xiaomi. Of course, this will have to be verified in a test. The first 2-in-1 tablet from the Chinese manufacturer will also be able to have an ultra-compact 65 W charger thanks to the use of gallium nitride (GaN).

The Xiaomi Book S finally has two cameras: a first of 13 Mpx in the back and a second of 5 Mpx in the front, for video exchanges. The tablet is otherwise limited to 285 x 190.5 x 8.6 mm by 720 grams. Therefore, it is slightly more compact than its main competitors.

The Xiaomi Book S is sold at 699 euros, with an introductory price of 599 from June 30.
