Xiaomi’s new photography partner Leica will feature prominently on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. The premium smartphone will feature the iconic red logo of the German photography specialist.
In great shape in the smartphone universe, Xiaomi confirmed at the end of May a partnership with Leica. The German photography specialist has long collaborated with Huawei, but the crisis the giant is going through has weakened this partnership. The German firm even tried to fend for itself by marketing the Letiz Phone 1. Leica’s first smartphone, it appeared in Japan as a version of the Sharp AQUOS R6.
Xiaomi can now Benefit from Leica’s reputation and know-how to improve the quality of your smartphones. If the Chinese brand is flooding the market with affordable models, it has not yet reached this milestone in the premium segment. Still in the shadow of Samsung and Apple, or even Oppo, Xiaomi knows that there is a place to take since the fall of Huawei. The manufacturer hopes to enter a ” new era “ for the photo thanks to Leica and wants to do it fast.
Xiaomi and Leica remained relatively vague about their collaboration. However, the two firms have confirmed that a first device “developed jointly by the two companies” will see the light of day in July. Her eyes quickly turned to the Xiaomi 12 Ultraa premium smartphone that is long overdue.
Xiaomi 12 Ultra: the Leica touch to shake the competition?
A new image, shared by leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibotends to confirm that the 12 Ultra will benefit from this partnership. Indeed, he shows that the smartphone will feature the famous red Leica logo and it’s not that common. The GSMArena site notes that this will be the first time that a smartphone has featured the iconic Leica logo; except for the Leitz 1 launched by the German brand. In fact, we can find the mention of Leica on models like the Huawei P50 Pro, but the logo is not present around the photo block.
On the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, it will be present on the back of a device that would be available in leather (black). A ceramic version (white) will also see the light. As for the characteristics of the camera, many rumors have been circulating for a few months. On paper, this new model would be very close to the current Mi 11 Ultra with a configuration based on three sensors. A 50 megapixel main module (24mm), a 48 megapixel ultra wide angle (12mm) and a 48 megapixel telephoto lens (120mm, periscopic zoom) would be present.
However, Xiaomi would make improvements to advance the part of the photo. The brand would offer an impressive 1-inch Sony IMX989 photosensor (and not the IMX800); instead of the ISOCELL GN2. A change that promises to improve the performance of a camera dedicated to photography. Finally, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could ship a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm.
We will have to wait until July to know everything about this smartphone that promises to be expensive. As a reminder, the Xiaomi 11 Ultra was billed at 1,199 euros when it was launched on the market.
