Xiaomi’s next flagship model is coming soon. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra could arrive in China in May with one goal: to be the high-end smartphone of the year.
Xiaomi has just launched its Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, two high-end smartphones, in France. Ambitious, the Chinese brand has decided to put aside the value for money – which is, however, its strong point – to move towards a high-end position. A change of range and if the Xiaomi 12 Pro justifies this strategy, it lacks a bit of a premium side. No matter, Xiaomi still has a chance to excite Samsung or Apple in this category.
The manufacturer is working on an Ultra version and rumors are beginning to circulate about the successor to the Mi 11 Ultra. Like every year, the firm is taking its time and not offering its Ultra model at the same time as the rest of the 12 series. According to a usually reliable insider, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be officially announced in May. This launch would initially concern the Chinese market, but it is already planned to cross borders. This scenario is reminiscent of what happened to the rest of the 12 series. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro first appeared in China last December, before packing their bags internationally in mid-March.
Therefore, the Chinese giant could launch its Xiaomi 12 Ultra in Europe during the summer, unless it decides to go faster. In fact, this period is not always the right time for smartphone manufacturers. The latter generally prefer to make announcements in the first semester or at the beginning of the school year in September.
An ultra-powerful smartphone?
The wait may be worth it, as the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could cement itself as the best high-end smartphone of 2022. If rumors are to be believed, the device will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC that Qualcomm has yet to announce. . I would add a 120 Hz QHD OLED screen or a 4,900 mAh battery; compatible with fast charging at 120 W. Xiaomi’s Ultra smartphone would also highlight the photo with a “giant” circular block. It would house three (or five) sensors, including a 50-megapixel main module. This sensor could be a 1-inch Sony IMX8xx and a partnership with Leica is mentioned.
Along with it, Xiaomi would add a 48 megapixel ultra wide angle and another 48 megapixel sensor topped by a telephoto lens capable of offering 5x optical zoom. A powerful configuration for a smartphone that wants to oppose the iPhone 13, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or Oppo Find X5 Pro.
In addition to the price issue, the launch date of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could hinder the manufacturer’s ambitions. Samsung or Oppo have already launched their very high-end models, while Apple can count on the iPhone 13 waiting for its 2022 vintage. Xiaomi will also have to show that it has the stuff of a premium manufacturer, which has a habit of shining. with the price-performance ratio.
