The launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ should allow several manufacturers to launch premium smartphones in the coming months
Like every year, Qualcomm should launch, during the summer, a new version of its processor for high-end smartphones. This year, it should logically be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. For a few months, rumors have grown around new smartphones that would be equipped with this mobile chip.
However, in a tweet posted on Tuesday, leaker Yogesh Brar, generally knowledgeable about the smartphone industry, provides an update on the expected upcoming smartphones and the timeline consumers should be entitled to.
The latest batch of SD888 and 8 Gen 1 phones will launch in early July.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ phones will start rolling out from next month. You can see 6-8 phones using it right now, the biggest release will be Galaxy Fold 4, OnePlus Ultra, Xiaomi 12 series, X80 Pro+, Moto Frontier and more

“The latest batch of smartphones with Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will arrive in early July”, he says. What to indicate that the following smartphones will indeed benefit from the next Qualcomm chip as indicated in its second sentence:
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ smartphones will start rolling out the following month. I can already see 6-8 smartphones using it, with the biggest releases being the Galaxy Z Fold 4, OnePlus Ultra, Xiaomi 12 line, X80 Pro+, Motorola Frontier, among others.
If the first half usually gives us a first glimpse of the performance of the year’s smartphones, it is precisely in the second half that manufacturers launch their most efficient models. This year 2022 must not escape the rule. As Yogesh Brar indicates, many premium smartphones are expected in the coming months.
Premium smartphones expected in the coming months
In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 folding smartphone, we expect a Xiaomi 12 Ultra and a OnePlus 10 Ultra, both of which offer much better photographic performance. Vivo should also present in the coming weeks a Vivo X80 Pro + by putting the package in the photo. On the Motorola side, Frontier has been talked about for a few months now and we expect a lot from this premium smartphone.
For now though, remember that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ isn’t official yet. Therefore, we do not know what features this new SoC will offer. Logically, we can expect a gain in terms of computing performance and graphics power. Last month, the GSMArena site indicated that the mobile processor could be officially presented as of May.
